Thailand proposes solar subsidies and new innovation policies
The Thai Cabinet is considering several major energy and technology initiatives. The Ministry of Interior is set to propose the “People's Solar Project,” which aims to provide direct subsidies of 50,000 baht per household for one million households to facilitate the transition to clean energy.
Additionally, the government is reviewing excise tax reductions for E20 and B20 biofuels. This move is intended to create a price advantage for biofuels over pure diesel, encouraging the use of alternative energy and providing economic benefits to Thai farmers.
On the technological front, the National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council has approved the “Thailand²: Nation of Master” plan. This strategic framework includes three key pillars: “Siam Silica,” aimed at integrating Thailand into the semiconductor industry through photonics and IC design; “Siam Medica,” focused on high-value health and wellness industries; and “Siam Terra,” designed to upgrade the agricultural and service sectors.
