Thailand ranks 44th in 2026 Global Innovation Index

Thailand has risen to 44th place in the 2026 Global Innovation Index (GII), according to the National Innovation Agency (NIA). This represents a one-position improvement from the previous year.

The GII 2026, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), focuses on the theme ‘Powering Entrepreneurs at the Frontier of Science.’ The index evaluates 79 indicators divided into two main sub-indices: Innovation Input (covering institutions, human capital, research, infrastructure, market systems, and business systems) and Innovation Output (covering knowledge, technology, and creative outputs).

Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Director of the NIA, emphasized that innovation is a critical mechanism for driving productivity, economic opportunity, and long-term growth amidst rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors, robotics, space technology, and clean energy. Switzerland continues to hold the top global position for the 16th consecutive year.
