Thailand ranks third in global expat rankings for 2026

Thailand has emerged as a top global destination for expatriates, ranking third in the 2026 InterNations Expat Insider survey. The survey, based on responses from over 7,700 expats, highlights Southeast Asian nations as key hubs, with Singapore and Malaysia also appearing in the global top ten. Panama holds the first position for the third consecutive year.

To support growing migration trends, particularly among digital nomads and high earners, the Thai government has introduced various visa options. These include the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) for remote workers, which allows a five-year stay, and the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa, which offers a 10-year stay and a 17% tax rate for qualified professionals. Other options include retirement visas for those over 50 and specialized education visas.
