Thailand and Philippines report improved PISA 2025 scores

Thailand and the Philippines have reported significant improvements in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) scores across reading, mathematics, and science.

In Thailand, average scores rose in all three categories, moving the country from 58th to 53rd place globally. The Thai Ministry of Education announced plans to integrate media and AI literacy into primary school curricula to prepare students for the OECD’s upcoming 2029 assessment requirements. Key domestic policies include reducing educational inequality and reforming the national education act.

The Philippines also saw substantial gains, with increases of 16 to 20 points in the core subjects. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. attributed these results to ongoing education reforms and the efforts of teachers and communities. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has called for further alignment between basic education and technical-vocational training to ensure long-term workforce readiness.
