Thailand SEC proposes expanding institutional investor definition for PE Trusts
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand is seeking public feedback on proposals to expand the definition of institutional investors to support fundraising through Private Equity Trusts (PE Trusts).
The proposed changes aim to include government agencies involved in research and innovation promotion, as well as university holding companies, as eligible investors for PE Trusts. This initiative is intended to broaden the investor base and increase access to capital for startups, innovation-driven businesses, and emerging sectors.
Currently, PE Trust investments are restricted to institutional investors or ultra-high-net-worth individuals. The SEC's proposed expansion would specifically apply to transactions involving PE Trusts to foster national economic growth and support high-potential businesses.
