Thailand seeks full BRICS membership in 2026 to boost trade

Thailand intends to seek full membership in the BRICS grouping in 2026, following its status as a partner country in 2025. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow described the bloc as a vital platform for promoting international trade, investment, and wider economic cooperation.

Phuangketkeow noted that BRICS provides a network for member and partner countries to identify emerging economic opportunities and maintain the free flow of trade. He emphasized that full participation would allow Thailand to deepen relations with a broader range of nations and expand cooperation in science, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Foreign Minister also highlighted the necessity of collaboration between the government and the private sector, stating that while governments establish favorable conditions for trade, businesses are the primary drivers of economic growth.
