Thailand Senate election probe faces allegations of political bias

Former Election Commission member Somchai Srisutthiyakorn and the People's Party have raised allegations of misconduct regarding the Election Commission's (EC) subcommittee No. 36, which is responsible for adjudicating Senate election disputes.

Critics point to potential conflicts of interest and political connections within the subcommittee. Specifically, it is alleged that five out of seven subcommittee members share connections to prominent figures in the Bhumjaithai Party through various political and legal training programs.

Concerns have been raised regarding the subcommittee's handling of cases involving high-profile politicians, including allegations of collusion in the Senate selection process. Somchai noted that during certain meetings, subcommittee members appeared to limit the scope of investigations or failed to adequately question reports, potentially shielding certain individuals from accountability. The group is calling for the matter to be sent to court to prevent any perceived delays in justice.
