Thailand shows mixed results in global indices

Thailand has experienced divergent outcomes in recent global rankings. According to the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index 2026, the country fell from 77th to 80th place out of 143 countries, scoring 0.50. The decline is attributed to weaknesses in controlling state power and accessing justice, with the country performing below the global average in seven of eight criteria, except for order and security.

In contrast, the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index 2026 shows Thailand rising 10 places to 38th globally. This improvement was driven largely by a 42% increase in scores for cultural tourism resources, supported by historical sites and visa exemption policies. However, the report highlights structural challenges, including a low ranking in the socioeconomic impact of tourism (106th) and environmental sustainability (76th), noting that tourism revenue often fails to reach local communities and small businesses.
