Thailand simplifies flood relief by removing document requirements
The Thai government has announced a policy to streamline flood relief processes by eliminating the requirement for citizens to provide physical copies of official documents. Under the direction of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has instructed all provinces to cease requesting photocopies of national ID cards, house registration books, or other government-issued documents for disaster relief and rehabilitation applications.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Lakmisaengchan stated that this move aims to reduce the burden on flood victims and accelerate the distribution of aid. To prevent fraud, duplication, or missed applicants, local authorities and district offices have been directed to verify victim information using existing government databases. This initiative aligns with the Thailand 4.0 policy to modernize public services and improve efficiency during crisis response.
