Thailand surveys unregistered homes for National Disaster Insurance System
The Thai government is accelerating a survey of households without official addresses to support the National Disaster Insurance System. This initiative aims to ensure that disaster relief and compensation can reach all citizens, including those in temporary housing or unregistered dwellings, during natural disasters.
According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Lakmisaengchan, a survey of 517,525 households across 76 provinces and Bangkok revealed that 491,453 of these homes lack official house numbers. Of these, 82,810 were identified as residences where people are actually living.
The National Disaster Insurance System has been approved with a total budget of 15.5 billion baht for insurance premiums. This includes 15 billion baht for group residential insurance and 500 million baht for group accident insurance. The coverage addresses three types of disasters: floods, storms, and earthquakes.
Under the policy, residential coverage can reach up to 100,000 baht per household per disaster. For floods, initial compensation is 10,000 baht with an additional 90,000 baht available. For storms and earthquakes, initial compensation is 5,000 baht with an additional 95,000 baht available. Death coverage for these disasters is set at 2,000,000 baht.
