Thailand tightens border controls with Myanmar in Tak province

The Thai government has implemented stricter controls along the Thailand–Myanmar border in Tak province following clashes in Myanmar that resulted in projectiles landing on Thai soil. These incidents caused damage to local homes and left one person injured at Mae Sot Hospital.

Security agencies, including the Naresuan Force, have requested the Mae Sot Customs Office to suspend import and export concessions through unauthorized channels. This measure applies to areas south of the first Thai–Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Mae Sot district and throughout Phop Phra district. The suspension is scheduled for seven days, from October 30 to November 5, 2026, or until the situation stabilizes.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwattana clarified that these measures do not constitute a total border closure. The goal is to prevent the transport of goods that could support combatants and to ensure the safety of local residents. Authorized trade channels remain operational under existing laws and regulations, and officials have advised businesses to verify specific transport conditions with customs authorities.
