Thailand prepares to host 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok
Thailand is preparing to host the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok from October 12 to 18. The event is expected to draw over 15,000 participants from 191 countries, including central bank governors, economic policymakers, and business leaders.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas will lead Thailand's participation, engaging in 30 bilateral meetings and speaking on major global stages. Key discussion topics include artificial intelligence, its impact on employment, and improving access to finance for SMEs.
To support the event, the Thai government has implemented several measures. Bangkok government offices will adopt work-from-home arrangements on October 12, 14, and 15 to ease traffic. Security will be bolstered by approximately 500 Tourist Police officers using drones and patrols. Additionally, over 320 electric vehicles will be utilized to reduce carbon emissions. The Thai Finance Ministry estimates that participant spending could generate between 1.05 billion and 2.25 billion baht for the local economy.
