Thailand to introduce $13.50 tourist tax in 2027
Thai authorities are planning to introduce a flat tourist tax of 450 baht (approximately $13.50) for foreign travelers, scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Initially, the fee will be applied to tourists arriving by air. The plan involves expanding the collection mechanism to include those entering the country via land or sea. Projections suggest that the air passenger tax alone could generate over 12 billion baht (about $360 million) annually for the country’s Tourism Development Fund, with total collections potentially reaching 15 billion baht ($450 million) once fully implemented.
The Thai Department of Public Relations stated that the collected funds will be used to modernize tourism infrastructure and improve safety standards, reducing the sector's reliance on the state budget. The proposal is currently undergoing public discussion, which is set to conclude on September 28, before moving to the National Tourism Policy Committee and the government for review.
