Thailand tourism shifts focus toward sustainability and quality

Thailand is transitioning its tourism strategy from recovery to transformation, with the Tourism Authority of Thailand aiming for up to three trillion baht in revenue for 2026. The focus is shifting toward quality and sustainability.

Travelers should be aware of updated entry requirements, as visa-exemption arrangements were revised in May 2026. Most non-Thai nationals must submit a Thailand Digital Arrival Card within three days of arrival. Passports should remain valid for at least six months, and travelers may be asked for proof of funds or onward travel.

Regarding food safety, travelers are advised to prioritize street food stalls that are busy and cook dishes to order. To minimize the risk of foodborne illness, it is recommended to consume steaming hot, freshly cooked meals and avoid raw seafood, unpeeled fruit, or uncovered food. Using sealed bottled water and practicing good hand hygiene are also key precautions.
