Thailand urges Israeli envoy to remind nationals to respect local laws

Thailand has formally requested that the Israeli ambassador remind Israeli nationals to respect Thai laws, culture, and traditions. Following talks between Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Ambassador Alona Fisher-Kamm, the Thai government emphasized that while it welcomes tourism, visitors cannot disregard local regulations.

The diplomatic engagement follows a series of incidents involving Israeli nationals that have led to increased scrutiny and recent deportations. Thai authorities are reportedly tightening enforcement measures, including shorter visa terms and easier deportation procedures, as part of a broader effort to shift the country’s tourism image toward families and ecotourism rather than nightlife-driven debauchery.

Minister Sihasak noted that the enforcement is not discriminatory, citing recent deportations of both Israeli and French nationals. Meanwhile, Ambassador Fisher-Kamm described the discussions as “good and open,” noting that the dialogue also covered cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and cybersecurity.
