Thailand welfare card poll shows over half of low‑income registrants denied benefits

A Nida Poll conducted by the Institute of Graduate Studies surveyed 1,850 Thai adults earning 10,000 baht or less per month about the state welfare card program. The poll, run from 21‑23 July 2023, found that 53.78% of respondents had previously received a card, while 46.22% had never.

Regarding registration for the 2023 (2569) welfare card, 51.73% said they had registered but did not receive a card, 24.65% did not register at all, and 23.62% both registered and received a card. Among those who registered but were denied, 43.26% said they were not angry, 21.53% were very angry, 20.69% were somewhat angry, and 14.52% were only slightly angry. Of the recipients, 32.49% said the benefit increased their support for the government, 36.84% were unsure, 19% supported the government regardless, and 11.67% remained unsupportive.
