Thailand's PM orders NBTC to clarify meeting orders by Dr. Sorana
The Office of the Prime Minister has issued an urgent request for the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to clarify why meetings were convened on October 1-2, 2026, under the direction of Dr. Sorana Boonbaichaiyapruk.
This inquiry follows a ruling by the Central Administrative Court on September 25, 2026. The court dismissed a lawsuit filed by Dr. Sorana, upholding a previous decision by the selection committee that he lacked the necessary qualifications and was deemed to have waived his right to the position under Section 18 of the NBTC Act.
The Prime Minister's Secretariat noted that filing a lawsuit to revoke an administrative order does not automatically suspend the enforcement of that order unless the court specifically mandates otherwise. Consequently, the legal standing of Dr. Sorana as a committee member is in question, and the NBTC's decision to issue meeting invitations based on his orders may be inconsistent with the court's judgment.
