Thak Con Festival reenacted to promote Khmer culture
The Thak Con Festival, also known as the Coconut Worship Festival, was reenacted at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. This program aims to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of the Khmer people to residents of the capital and tourists, while also promoting the image and tourism of Can Tho.
The festival is a significant spiritual event for the Khmer community, intended to pray for peace, favorable weather, and bountiful harvests. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, the reenactment included key rituals such as the Krong Peli ceremony (worshipping the Earth God), Dak Bath (offering food to monks), and the presentation of offerings like flowers, fruit, and betel. The program featured performances by the Can Tho Khmer Art Troupe and various artisans to highlight the connection between spiritual beliefs and agricultural life.
