Thakurgaon-1 by-election focuses on minority voter influence

The upcoming Thakurgaon-1 by-election in Bangladesh has created a new political dynamic following the vacancy of the seat after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was declared President. With the Awami League absent from the race, the competition is primarily centered between candidates from the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.

Local voters and political analysts suggest that the Hindu community, which numbers over 130,000 in the constituency, will play a decisive role in determining the winner. Candidates from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan, and Bangladesh Congress are all contesting the election, scheduled for October 29.
