Thales and Kalyani Strategic Systems partner to manufacture 70mm rockets in India

Thales Belgium and Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), a defense subsidiary of Bharat Forge, have signed a Strategic Alliance Agreement to manufacture 70-mm rocket systems in India. The partnership, finalized during a Belgian state visit on September 3, 2026, aims to establish a local assembly line for both unguided and laser-guided rocket variants.

The collaboration combines Thales’ combat-proven rocket technology and global market network with KSSL’s manufacturing, testing, and system integration capabilities. KSSL will utilize its infrastructure, including a new energetics facility under construction in Andhra Pradesh, to support the initiative. These rocket systems are already utilized by the Indian Armed Forces and are integrated into rotary-wing aircraft such as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH-WSI).

Aligned with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the alliance seeks to develop a robust local supply chain and position India as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for advanced munitions. The companies target the production of the first fully assembled, Indian-made rocket by early 2027.
