Thales launches Luna 8 quantum‑resistant hardware security module

Thales announced the launch of Luna 8, a next‑generation hardware security module (HSM) designed to protect cryptographic keys against emerging AI‑driven workloads and quantum‑computing threats. The appliance incorporates a Thales‑designed cryptographic processor that delivers high‑performance support for both current algorithms and post‑quantum cryptography (PQC), offering a migration path for organizations preparing for the "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" scenario. According to the 2026 Thales Data Threat Report, 59 % of enterprises are already prototyping or evaluating PQC algorithms. Luna 8 is offered as a network appliance with an upgradeable hardware architecture that can integrate with existing Luna deployments, allowing customers to retain their applications while adding quantum‑safe capabilities. The system is also slated for extension to Thales' PayShield 11K payment HSM. Executives highlighted the product’s speed, scalability and flexibility, with Andy Zollo, SVP Application & Data Security at Thales CSP, noting the unprecedented risks posed by quantum computing, and Todd Moore, VP of Data Security Products at Thales, emphasizing the need for cryptographic agility.
