Thameslink and Great Northern rail services to be replaced by buses

Rail passengers in the United Kingdom will face service disruptions from 10pm on Saturday, August 29, until 8am on Monday, August 31, due to engineering work. Bus replacement services will be implemented for Thameslink and Great Northern routes south of Peterborough and Royston towards London.

Affected routes include services between Hitchin and Peterborough, Bedford and Peterborough, Hitchin and Royston, Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage, St Albans City and Stevenage, Hertford North and Stevenage, and sections involving Potters Bar.

The work is part of the £1.4 billion East Coast Digital Programme, which focuses on testing and introducing digital in-cab signalling. This technology replaces traditional lineside signals with real-time information sent directly to train drivers to improve railway resilience and reliability.
