Thameslink launches £3.6 million passenger comfort overhaul in the UK

Thameslink is undertaking a £3.6 million modernization programme that will refurbish more than 1,140 train carriages serving roughly 3.6 million passengers each year. The work includes deep steam cleaning, repainting of restroom interiors, applying anti‑graffiti vinyl films, and installing new seating, lighting and passenger‑information displays. Digital upgrades bring real‑time journey updates, improved onboard Wi‑Fi and interactive screens, while signalling systems are being replaced with modern digital technology to increase frequency and reliability. The project, financed by the Department for Transport and Greater Thameslink Railway and supported by Siemens, also plans to hire additional drivers and maintenance staff. The overhaul aims to raise hygiene standards, reduce delays, and encourage more commuters to choose rail over road transport across the United Kingdom.
