Thanasis Kavvadas discusses mooring installation in Megalisi and Kalamos
Thanasis Kavvadas, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food and Member of Parliament for Lefkada, met with the General Secretary of Shipping and Ports, Manolis Koutoulakis, to address concerns regarding the installation of moorings in Megalisi and Kalamos.
The meeting followed discussions with the Mayor of Megalisi, Gerasimos Katopodis, and the Deputy Mayor of Kalamos, Panagiotis Gianniotis. Kavvadas conveyed the concerns of local communities and noted that both the Megalisi and Lefkada Municipal Councils had issued unanimous negative decisions regarding the matter.
Kavvadas emphasized that the request involves a private individual and must undergo a rigorous approval process. This requires consensus from several authorities, including the Land Service, the Hellenic Navy General Staff, the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities, the Spatial Planning and Infrastructure Service, and the Port Authority. Additionally, because the areas are part of the Natura 2000 network, the approval of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization is also required.
