Thanasis Kontogeorgis calls for European fiscal flexibility

Greek Minister of State Thanasis Kontogeorgis addressed several national and European issues in a recent interview. Regarding the recent protests in France, he emphasized the importance of non-violent public dialogue, stating that “no space should be given to violence in any claim,” as violence can undermine even legitimate demands. He noted that the Hellenic Police aim to protect both protesters and property using “mild force.”

On domestic policy, Kontogeorgis highlighted government investments in education, including a 100% increase in student allowances and the construction of 8,500 new beds in student dormitories.

Addressing the rising cost of living, he characterized it as a pan-European issue requiring coordinated action. He noted that the Greek Prime Minister has initiated discussions regarding the energy crisis and the new European budget. Kontogeorgis stated that the European Commission has been called upon to develop specific measures that account for the unique conditions of individual member states, asserting that “our country has a voice” in these processes.
