Thanasis Kontogeorgis defends early debt repayment and economic policy

Thanasis Kontogeorgis, Deputy Minister attached to the Prime Minister, addressed several economic and political issues in a recent television interview. Regarding the Thessaloniki International Fair, he described the ability to return a growth dividend as a reality resulting from the government’s economic policy and the efforts of the Greek people, calling it a achievement that must be preserved.

On the subject of early debt repayment, Kontogeorgis dismissed opposition criticism as ‘incomprehensible.’ He argued that reducing the national debt is necessary to lighten the burden on future generations and facilitate subsequent governments. He emphasized that the government focuses on permanent measures rather than one-off subsidies, adhering to European spending ceiling regulations to strengthen the country’s credibility and aim to ensure Greece is no longer the country with the largest deficit.

Furthermore, he outlined upcoming government measures aimed at increasing stable and available income for various social groups, including vulnerable populations, retirees, youth, families with children, and small to medium-sized enterprises.
