Thanasis Kontogeorgis outlines regional infrastructure projects in Greece

Greek Minister of State Thanasis Kontogeorgis has presented a weekly report on regional development projects, focusing on water management, energy, and infrastructure across the country.

Key water resource initiatives include the upgrading of the wastewater treatment plant in Heraklion, the inauguration of a new desalination unit in Patmos, and the development of the Yaliskari sewage network in Ikaria. Additional water and sewage projects are underway in the municipalities of Soufli and Dorida.

Regarding disaster recovery and safety, the Minister noted flood protection and road safety interventions in Arcadia, Messenia, Laconia, and Corinthia. Compensation processes have also begun for damages caused by recent severe weather in Crete and Evia.

Furthermore, Kontogeorgis emphasized the importance of community dialogue in reconstruction efforts, specifically mentioning the ‘Plan 2035’ initiative for the reconstruction of the Farakada municipality following the impact of Storm Daniel. An inter-ministerial meeting involving local stakeholders is scheduled for November to further define new actions.
