Thang Long film week opens in Hanoi to honor academic traditions
The “Hiền tài và hào khí Thăng Long” (Talents and the Spirit of Thang Long) film week officially opened on September 23, 2026, at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi. Organized by the Vietnam Cinema Promotion Association in collaboration with the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy, the event serves as a cultural highlight leading up to the 950th anniversary of the Temple of Literature (1076–2026).
The film week features 15 cinematic works, including feature films, documentaries, and animations, alongside six award-winning short films from the “Hiền tài hôm nay” competition. The program aims to honor Vietnam's traditions of studiousness, respect for teachers, and the value of talented individuals.
The opening screenings included the classic film “Học trò thủy thần” (The Water God's Student), which tells the story of Tiểu Khê and his gratitude toward teacher Chu Văn An, as well as the documentary “Khát vọng vươn xa” and the first episode of the documentary series on King Lý Thái Tổ. Dr. Ngô Phương Lan, Chair of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion Association, noted that the selection connects historical traditions of learning with the aspirations of modern youth.
