Thanh Hoa mandates weekly environmental cleaning for officials

The Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has issued a directive to restore urban order and improve environmental sanitation. Starting September 3, all officials, civil servants, and employees across provincial departments and local authorities are required to dedicate one fixed day per week to participate in cleaning activities alongside residents.

The directive emphasizes that these efforts must be substantive and continuous rather than merely performative. Officials are strictly prohibited from delegating these cleaning tasks to service staff; leaders and employees must participate directly. Local authorities are tasked with assigning specific individuals or units to manage particular streets and residential areas. Commune-level chairpersons will be held accountable if persistent pollution continues to affect residents' lives.

In addition to sanitation, the province is prioritizing the undergrounding of overhead electricity and telecommunications cables, particularly in key urban areas. The provincial police have also been tasked with leading efforts to crack down on the illegal occupation of roads and sidewalks for business to ensure traffic safety and prevent the recurrence of previous violations.
