Thanh Hoa medical transport costs under Ministry of Health investigation
The Ministry of Health's Medical Service Administration has requested the Thanh Hoa Department of Health to urgently investigate reports of excessive costs regarding patient transport and medication.
The investigation follows complaints from the family of a patient, H. B. D., who was receiving intensive care at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital. The family sought to transport the critically ill patient home via a private ambulance service for a 16 km journey.
According to the family, they were advised to use vasopressor medication to maintain the patient's life, a cost not covered by health insurance. They reported being charged 600,000 VND per bottle for seven bottles daily, totaling approximately 4.2 million VND per day. Additionally, the family stated they paid 5.3 million VND for the transport service and medical support equipment, claiming these prices were significantly higher than market rates.
The Ministry has directed the Thanh Hoa Department of Health to verify the information, rectify any violations, and strengthen the management of patient transport services in both public and private hospitals.
