Thanh Hoa sand mine corruption trial scheduled for October 29

Former Thanh Hoa provincial Vice Chairman Le Duc Giang and 10 other defendants are scheduled to stand trial in Hanoi on October 29 regarding illegal sand mining and mismanagement of state assets. The case centers on Sand Mine No. 2 located on the Chu River in Thanh Hoa province.

Prosecutors allege that Le Duc Giang, along with former officials from the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Mineral Resources Division, violated regulations concerning the management and use of state assets, causing significant waste.

Additionally, several individuals from Thien An Phat Mineral Company and Thanh Tam Construction and Trading Company face charges including resource exploitation violations, accounting fraud, and tax evasion. Specifically, it is alleged that in 2022, a transaction for mining rights was valued at 62 billion VND, but the contract was falsified at 2 billion VND to evade taxes, resulting in losses exceeding 16 billion VND.
