Thanh Nhan Hospital removes 6kg uterine fibroid from Hanoi woman
A 51-year-old woman in Hanoi, Vietnam, was recently found to have a 6kg uterine fibroid after mistaking her growing abdomen for weight gain associated with menopause. The patient, identified as Ms. N. T. L., sought medical attention at Thanh Nhan Hospital only after her abdominal enlargement became abnormal.
Medical specialists at the hospital successfully performed surgery to remove the large mass. Dr. Hoang Son Tung from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department noted that while uterine fibroids are common and mostly benign, their size and location can significantly impact health and daily activities.
Doctors advise women in their 40s and 50s to remain vigilant regarding gynecological health. They warned that symptoms such as abdominal pressure, pain, irregular menstruation, or bloating are often misattributed to age-related weight gain or hormonal changes, which can lead to dangerous delays in seeking medical diagnosis.
