Thanjavur police arrest youth following altercation during VCK protest

A protest organized by the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) in Thanjavur turned violent on Monday after a confrontation between a police officer and a local youth. The VCK members had staged a roadblock to protest the removal of party digital banners by the Thanjavur city corporation.

During the demonstration, an altercation occurred involving 26-year-old Akash, a resident of Vilar village, who was riding a two-wheeler. Reports indicate that after a verbal dispute with police and VCK members, Special Sub-Inspector Abdul Rahim allegedly slapped Akash, who then retaliated by slapping the officer. The incident was captured on video and has since circulated on social media.

Police arrested Akash following the scuffle, and a second individual, 27-year-old Ayyappan, was also taken into custody for using abusive language toward officers. The VCK members dispersed after the civic administration reinstalled the party banner at the protest site.
