New data from Butterball’s 2026 Togetherness Report indicates that the average Thanksgiving gathering is expected to include approximately 10 people. A survey of 1,374 adults conducted by Butterball and Circana found that 85% of people plan to celebrate the holiday, with the primary motivations being spending time with family (64%), enjoying food (53%), and relaxing (34%). Despite rising costs, most hosts intend to maintain their traditional celebrations, and turkey remains a staple for 84% of participants.

To avoid the stress of hosting and cooking, travelers are increasingly considering holiday getaways. Recommended destinations for the 2026 season include warm locations like Los Angeles and San Diego, national parks such as Yosemite and Sequoia, or ski destinations like Lake Tahoe and Aspen. Coastal New England and historical sites like Plymouth, Massachusetts, also serve as popular options for those looking to establish new holiday traditions.
