Thanongsak Simsri retains IBF junior flyweight title with second-round KO

Thai boxer Thanongsak Simsri retained his IBF junior flyweight title with a second-round knockout victory over Mark Vicelles at the Fujisan Messe in Shizuoka, Japan.

While Vicelles showed aggression in the opening round, Simsri shifted the momentum in the second round by landing a powerful straight right hand that dropped the Filipino challenger. After a second knockdown from another right hand, Simsri unleashed a flurry of punches, prompting the referee to stop the contest at 2:05 of the second round.

Following the win, Simsri is expected to face his mandatory challenger, Regie Suganob. Suganob earned his position after a fifth-round stoppage victory against Sivenathi Nontshinga in September.
