Thanos Lambropoulos, prominent Greek film producer, dies at 70

Greek film producer Thanos Lambropoulos has passed away suddenly at the age of 70. He was a prominent figure in Greek cinema, particularly known for his extensive work in the documentary genre.

Born in Athens in 1956, Lambropoulos studied film at the Lycurgus Stavrakos School of Cinema and Television and law at the University of Athens. In 1988, he co-founded the production company Periplous alongside director Stelios Charalampopoulos and cinematographer Giannis Varvarigos. Through Periplous, he produced various Greek and European co-productions focusing on history, literature, and collective memory.

His notable filmography includes works such as ‘Hades’ (1996), ‘Sinasos, Topography of Memory’ (1997), ‘They Saw Our Holidays’ (2000), and ‘The Signature’ (2013). He also produced ‘The Night Fernando Pessoa Met Constantine Cavafy’ (2013) and ‘Marathon of a Half-Finished Spring, Grigoris Lambrakis’ (2014). His work extended to television, including the ERT documentary series ‘The History of My Years’.
