Thanos Plevris: Arson attack on political office in Athens

An improvised explosive device was used in an arson attack against the political office of Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris in the Kolonaki district of Athens. The incident occurred around 02:15 on November 1, 2026, on Alexandrou Soutsou Street.

Two unknown perpetrators, reportedly wearing Halloween masks to conceal their identities, placed a device consisting of two gas canisters at the entrance of the building. The resulting explosion caused significant material damage, destroying the main entrance door and shattering windows. No injuries were reported.

Thanos Plevris stated that the method of placement demonstrated “homicidal intent” and alleged the perpetrators were “supporters of illegal migrants.” The ruling New Democracy party condemned the act as a “fascist action by cowardly thugs.”

Greek police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department have launched an investigation. Authorities are currently reviewing security camera footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects.
