Tharapuram by-election: Communist Party alleges campaign bias

M. Veerapandian, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India, has criticized election officials regarding the Tharapuram assembly constituency by-election. He alleged that a two-wheeler rally planned by the Communist Party was denied permission on the final day of campaigning.

Veerapandian claimed that while the Communist Party's rally was rejected, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was permitted to hold a rally on the same route on the same day. He cited reports from office officials stating that the Tamil Nadu Police issued written orders to deny other permissions because the DMK campaign had already been approved.

The Communist Party leader argued that such actions violate the Model Code of Conduct, which requires a level playing field for all political parties. He emphasized that authorities should coordinate multiple rallies to manage traffic and law and order rather than denying access to opposition parties.
