Thassos: Man drowns at Saliaras Beach during day trip

A 51-year-old man died on Sunday, September 27, while swimming at Saliaras Beach on the island of Thassos. The victim, a Turkish national residing in Germany, had been working in Kavala and took a day trip to the island, a destination he had desired to visit for 30 years.

Heavy waves caused the man to struggle in the water. His friend attempted a rescue but also faced danger from the strong currents. Bystanders at the beach intervened by forming a human chain, successfully pulling the friend to safety. However, emergency medical services from EKAB arrived to find the 51-year-old man had already passed away. The deceased was a married father of two children.
