Thatcher Demko's availability for Canucks training camp uncertain

The availability of Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko for the upcoming training camp remains uncertain due to ongoing health concerns. After playing only 43 games over the last two seasons, Demko underwent hip surgery last season. While there was initial optimism that he would be fully prepared for the September training camp, recent reports indicate there is no firm timeline for his return to full game action.

Although Demko has begun on-ice training, experts suggest it is unclear if he will be ready for the start of camp. The Canucks organization is expected to prioritize his full recovery over a rushed return, especially as he enters the first year of a new three-year, $25.5 million contract.

To manage the potential absence, Vancouver has depth in the goaltending position. Veteran Kevin Lankinen, who has recorded 92 starts over the last two seasons with a 3.12 GAA and an 88.9% save percentage, is expected to handle a significant workload. Nikita Tolopilo is also available to serve as a short-term backup if Demko remains sidelined during the start of the regular season.
