Thayngen: Customs officials seize stolen goods and firearm

At the Thayngen border crossing, officials from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) conducted two independent inspections resulting in the seizure of stolen goods and a firearm.

During the first inspection on August 2, 2026, authorities stopped a Belgian-registered vehicle carrying four adults and one child from Romania. The driver, a 40-year-old woman with active warrants for theft in Germany, was found with approximately 60 items including clothing, handbags, and jewelry valued at several thousand euros. Tools for removing security tags and labels were also discovered in the vehicle. The occupants and goods were handed over to German police.

In a second inspection that afternoon, officials stopped a German vehicle. The driver could not provide valid identification, and the passenger, a 62-year-old Turkish national, could not produce a valid vehicle registration. During the search, officers discovered an unloaded firearm in a toolbox. The individuals and the weapon were transferred to the Schaffhausen police for further investigation.
