The 50 rebrands as culinary industry shifts toward accessibility

The global hospitality and fine dining sectors are undergoing significant shifts in branding and operational models. The prominent international ranking organization, formerly known as ‘The World’s 50 Best’, has rebranded to ‘The 50’. Lisa Green, Managing Director of Content, stated the change reflects the organization’s evolution over 25 years, moving beyond a simple restaurant list to a broader, more diverse international brand.

Simultaneously, discussions regarding the viability of high-end dining have resurfaced following comments by chef Bruno Verjus. While headlines suggested the ‘death of fine dining’, Verjus clarified that he is shifting his own restaurant, Table, toward a simpler and more accessible model rather than declaring the end of the entire sector. The debate highlights the tension between the high costs of elite culinary expertise—including premium ingredients and specialized labor—and the growing desire for more accessible dining experiences.
