The Afghan Whigs issue new single “My Lover” ahead of Soft Control album release

American alternative band The Afghan Whigs have released the single “My Lover,” previewing their tenth studio album Soft Control, which is scheduled for release on 21 August 2026 via Royal Cream/BMG. The album was recorded in studios across Joshua Tree, New Orleans, East Hollywood and Cincinnati and features a 37‑minute tracklist of 10 songs, including “Jungle Roux,” “House of I,” and “My Lover.” Supporting musicians on the record include former drummer Patrick Keeler, vocalist/violist Petra Haden and Bo Koster of My Morning Jacket.

The band will tour the new material beginning 19 September 2026, starting with UK dates in Leeds, Nottingham, Glasgow, Manchester, London and Brighton, accompanied by British singer‑songwriter Ed Harcourt. A North‑American leg will follow, supported by Minneapolis‑based Night Moves. Vinyl editions of the single are also being issued, with a limited Pink Wave variant.
