The Albies awards honor human rights defenders in London
The Clooney Foundation for Justice hosted its fifth annual Albies awards ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London. Established by George and Amal Clooney, the event honors individuals and organizations dedicated to defending human rights and justice globally.
This year’s honorees include Kyrgyz journalists Bolot Temirov and Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy, Malawian girls’ rights advocate Vanessa Mwangala, American photojournalist Lynsey Addario, the Congolese organization Justice Plus, and Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith. The awards are named after South African anti-apartheid leader Justice Albie Sachs.
The gala drew numerous high-profile attendees, including Brad Pitt, Ines de Ramon, Emma Thompson, Anna Wintour, and Laura Dern. Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer, attended in a gold Gucci gown, while George Clooney wore a black tuxedo. The event serves to provide a protective spotlight on courageous defenders who often face significant personal risk in their work.
