The Alternate Root wins Business of the Year and announces expansion

The Alternate Root, a cafe located in Uralla, received four honors at the 2026 New England North West Business Awards held at Club Quirindi on September 25. The establishment was named Business of the Year and received awards for Excellence in Medium Business and Excellence in Sustainability. Additionally, staff member Grace Hull was recognized as Outstanding Employee.

Berdine Warne, representing Little Birdy Enterprises, The Alternate Root, and The Rustic Fig, was named Outstanding Business Leader in the category for businesses with 21 or more employees. Following these accolades, Warne announced expansion plans for the Uralla operations, which include the development of a function centre, a coffee roastery, a market garden, and a hospitality training program on newly purchased adjacent land.
