The Apothecary Diaries third season introduces new visual settings

The third season of the anime series ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ features significant changes to its visual identity and setting. Director Akinori Fudesaka stated that as the narrative shifts away from the Imperial Palace toward western regions, the production team has implemented gradual changes to reflect new cultural and climatic environments.

These visual updates include variations in the color of earthen walls, different weather patterns, and new structures and colors for character clothing. Fudesaka noted that generic assets previously used for the imperial court were no longer sufficient, leading him to request custom-made art for the new locations.

The season adapts events from the fifth volume of the light novel. Plot developments include Maomao working as an apothecary at the Verdigris House, while Jinshi moves away from his identity as a eunuch to fulfill his duties as the Moon Prince and the emperor’s younger brother.
