The Bahamas marks seventh anniversary of Hurricane Dorian

The Bahamas is marking the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm that caused widespread devastation in Abaco and Grand Bahama with winds reaching nearly 185 miles per hour.

Prime Minister Philip Davis held a cabinet memorial to honor those lost and recognize the resilience of survivors and first responders. He emphasized that preparation is a responsibility and that the nation must ensure no settlement is left behind during rebuilding efforts.

In response to the lessons learned from the disaster, the Disaster Risk Management Authority is focusing on continuous capacity building and readiness exercises. Managing Director Aarone Sargent and Minister of State McKell Bonaby noted that while local economies are strengthening, the government is conducting workshops to ensure ground teams are prepared for future natural disasters.
