James Gunn Denies Back-to-Back Filming of The Batman Part II and III
DC Studios co‑chief James Gunn used a Threads Q&A to refute circulating rumors that Matt Reeves’ sequel, The Batman Part II, would be shot back‑to‑back with a third installment. When asked if the two films were being filmed simultaneously, Gunn replied, “I can deny.” He confirmed that only Part II is currently in production, with filming taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom and a release set for February 18 2028. No plans have been announced for The Batman Part III, and the studio has not indicated any joint production schedule.
The clarification comes amid ongoing delays to the sequel’s release, which was moved from an earlier 2027 date. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, with returning cast members and new additions such as Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Gunn’s statement aims to curb fan speculation and set expectations for the franchise’s rollout.
