The Beatles released Abbey Road album
The Beatles released their twelfth studio album, Abbey Road, on September 26, 1969. The album marked the final time the four members—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—recorded together in a studio setting.
Produced by George Martin and engineered by Geoff Emerick, the album features a blend of rock, pop, blues, and progressive rock, including orchestral arrangements. Notable tracks include George Harrison’s ‘Something’ and ‘Here Comes the Sun,’ as well as the iconic side-B medley consisting of ‘Golden Slumbers,’ ‘Carry That Weight,’ and ‘The End.’
The album’s cover art, featuring the band walking across the Abbey Road zebra crossing, was photographed by Iain Macmillan. The image has become one of the most recognizable symbols in music history. In the UK, the album debuted at number one on the charts and remained a fixture on the top 75 list for 92 weeks.
