The Beatles: Unreleased Lennon track discovered and McCartney's alien song choice
A previously unreleased John Lennon composition titled ‘Little Girl’ has been discovered as part of a luxury edition of the Beatles album Rubber Soul. The track is an intimate acoustic sketch recorded by Lennon on magnetic tape at his home, featuring only his voice and acoustic guitar.
While lyrics to the song were previously noted in the 2012 book ‘The John Lennon Letters’, the musical recording had remained unknown until now. The piece reflects the transitional period of 1965, when the band moved toward the more mature, folk-influenced sound found on Rubber Soul.
In a separate discussion regarding the band's legacy, Paul McCartney identified ‘Yesterday’ as the song he would choose to play for extraterrestrials if they were to visit Earth. McCartney noted the difficulty of the choice, also considering ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Let It Be’ before settling on ‘Yesterday’, which remains one of the most covered songs in history.
